Although I haven't read Rheingold's recent Smart Mobs, the attention its received made me pick up some of his older books from the library. Tools dates back to 1984, but it has a solid history of the last 150 years of computing and I found it entertaining to read Rheingolds early description of email, the evolution of arpanet, and other technologies he felt were about to become as or more important as the personal computer was then.
